Game Design

During the COVID-19 pandemic, cases of anxiety and depression have gradually increased, as have suicide rates. Many of my friends, including myself, are also affected by anxiety and depression. I want to use games as an easy-to-understand method to relieve people's depression and anxiety and popularize mental health knowledge so that everyone can be aware of changes in their own and those around them's emotional states and take timely measures. The ultimate goal is to reduce the prevalence of major depression and reduce suicide rates.

Storytelling

Story plot: In a mysterious and magical world of elves exists an open-world game called "MindScape." The game aims to help players explore their inner world and provide inspiration and help for their mental health. The protagonist, Eddie, is an introverted and imaginative boy who often feels anxious, depressed and confused in his heart. One day, he discovers a mysterious game, "MindScape," that claims to help him find his inner self. Eddie embarks on self-discovery and adventure out of curiosity and desire.

Interaction: Self-test

Main plot: Eddie enters the virtual world of "MindScape." There, he meets a fairy doctor named Eileen, who becomes his spiritual guide and mentor. Eileen guides Eddie on mind-quests, adventures, and puzzle-solving quests to find the people who need him and gain approval. In different areas of "MindScape," Eddie encounters spirit characters representing various emotions and mental states, such as sad spirits, angry spirits, and fearful spirits. Through interacting with these souls, Eddie learned relevant psychological knowledge and how to face and manage his emotions, overcome psychological obstacles, and find inner harmony. During spiritual exploration, Irene led Eddie to experience meditation, yoga, random crushing and other stress-reducing games to improve internal balance and release stress.

Interaction: Meet elves, help NPCs, and unlock unzipped games

Side1: In the brave trial side story, Eddie gained the courage to embrace growth through the tests of jumps, puzzles and battles.

Side2: In the side stories of the side-line self-discovery journey, Eddie cultivates self-awareness and the pursuit of authenticity and the essence of life through the exploration of inner conflicts such as anxiety and depression.

Character Design

Since the target audience does not have a specific gender, the character design will appear more neutral and combine animation and realistic painting styles to give users a more immersive experience and enhance their sense of substitution.

“MindScape: Journey Within” is a psychological health game that allows users to learn about mental well-being and test their levels of anxiety or depression. Based on the test results, the game generates customized levels, providing a personalized gaming experience to promote relaxation of the mind, body, and emotions.
